Coral Necklace

Being a huge fan of the color red, and finding it difficult to find red gemstones, this is a favorite of mine.  It's constructed of bamboo coral, lava stone, translucent African vaseline trade beads, and a couple of stones that came right off a beach of Lake Michigan, that I drilled out myself to be able to use them.  It measures almost 34" with a drop of about 3".  I used a nice weight textured sterling silver chain, which is attached such as to give it an asymetrical look, whcih I seem to do all the time anyway!  All the wire wrapping and the handforged links & components are sterling silver that I've manipulated into these different shapes.  This necklace pairs up nicely with another necklace here (the one with citrine, stick pearls, and charoite) if you like wearing more than one necklace for that layered look.  As with all of my necklaces, the wire wrapping is interconnected, so there's no need for jump rings that may catch on something and break.  After it's constructed, it's artificially aged, then cleaned with steel wool, put into a tumbler for a while, and finally polished by hand to give it a beautiful luster.

Stick pearls, citrine

Measuring approximately 26" long, plus a 2.5" drop, this necklace is a nice warm earthy combination of Charoite, Citrine discs, rusty colored stick pearls with an irridescent gold glow, small white coin pearls, yellow freshwater pearls, and an unusual translucent African vaseline trade bead.  I did add in a handforged clasp on the front, but it's still easily slipped over your head with it closed.  All the wire wrapping and the handforged links & components are sterling silver that I've manipulated into these different shapes.  I made this one specifically to be able to wear with the coral necklace, either looks great by themselves, but these 2 nest together nicely if you like that layered look.  As with all of my necklaces, the wire wrapping is interconnected, so there's no need for jump rings that may catch on something and break.  After it's constructed, it's artificially aged, then cleaned with steel wool, put into a tumbler for a while, and finally polished by hand to give it a beautiful luster.

Trade beads & vintage optomestrist lens

Purples & greens combined has always been a favorite combination to work with, and this has been no exception.  This approximately 32" necklace has a beautiful drop of almost 7", ending with an optometrist lens from the late 1800's.  This lens magnifies, so you can easily use it to read small print, making it beautiful as well as functional.  The larger brighter green beads are African trade beads, called vaseline beads that are translucent.  There's also some good sized stick pearls that are a lovely irridescent purple that almost glows with a touch of green that glints if the light is right, finished off with some smaller purple jasper rondelles and some square freshwater pearls that are an extremely pale, almost seafoam green color.  This will quickly become one of your favorite necklaces to wear!  As with all of my necklaces, the wire wrapping is interconnected, so there's no need for jump rings that may catch on something and break.  After it's constructed, it's artificially aged, then cleaned with steel wool, put into a tumbler for a while, and finally polished by hand to give it a beautiful luster.

Peterstite & Pearls

If you like a more organic look, then this is the necklace for you!  It measures approximately 25" long, plus an additional 3" drop of Peterstite and a fresh water pearl hanging from a handforged component.  The stone, Peterstite, is fast becoming one of my favorites with it's very organic look of earth, water & sky combined, at least that's how I see it.  The freshwater pearls used are a combination of a very soft gold color, along with almost an off white with just the faintest touch of color to them. Even though it's long eough to easily slip over your head, I did add a hand forged clasp to it, just in case you have your hair up for a special occasion, to avoid possibly messing it up.  Have to plan ahead for these things:)  All of the wire wrapping is interconnected, so there's no need for jump rings that may catch on something and break.  This should last a lifetime!  As with all of my jewelry, after it's made it's artificially aged, then cleaned with steel wool, put into a tumbler for a while, and finally polished by hand to give it a beautiful luster.

Necklace/bracelet combination

This piece gives you the option of either wearing the whole piece as an approximately 31" necklace, or unhook the 8.5" section from the hand forged links and wear that piece as a bracelet, which changes the necklace length to approximately 21", plus the 3" drop that hangs from a hand forged component which has delicate white stick peals attached to it, ending with an off white vintage mother of pearl button.  Both pieces are made of mother of pearl nuggets, vintage mother of pearl buttons, and freshwater pearls in a very soft taupe, almost a soft peach like color.  All of the wire and components are made of sterling silver with no jump rings to catch on something and break.  This should last a lifetime!  As with all of my jewelry, after it's made it's artificially aged, then cleaned with steel wool, put into a tumbler for a while, and finally polished by hand to give it a beautiful luster.  This is one of my favorite pieces, as it will match just about anything that you wear.

Peacock pearls & vintage optomestrist lens

For those of us who can't read the fine print, this will solve the problem.  The optometrist lens from the late 1800's that's attached to the end of this necklace magnifies!  I've tried it out myself, and made it long enough so that it's easy to use and hold out far enough to read any small print-comes in very handy:)  This hangs off an approximate 7.5" drop, which is connected to a 31" necklace made out of the ever popular freshwater pearl in a peacock color, and carefully wapped with sterling silver wire.  All of the wire wrapping is interconnected, so there's no need for jump rings that may catch on something and break.  This should last a lifetime!  As with all of my jewelry, after it's made it's artificially aged, then cleaned with steel wool, put into a tumbler for a while, and finally polished by hand to give it a beautiful luster.

Set of 3   Each piece is a 9"x12" gallery wrapped canvas, with painted edges ready to hang and all sealed with a museum quality wax finish.  They're all done in the same color palette so that each piece will complement the next.  It truly took 3 pieces to tell the entire story!

"Traveling Man"

This gentleman is well traveled, well read, enjoys a good cigar now & then, but still likes to get his hands dirty and build things.  His dilemna is in which woman should he choose for a life partner, or does he keep them both?  This piece has parts of a vintage carpenter's rule, cigar bands, vintage cabinet card and bus tickets, all on top of a background that's heavily layered with book pages, paints & textures.

"Grounded"

This woman on a vintage cabinet card hails from Green Bay, WI.  The card is trimmed in bits of copper mesh and has pieces of mica partially covering her.  She knows how to keep a house, loves to read evidenced by the book pages behind her, loves her lace and holds dearly onto the little key that holds her secrets.  Lots of color & texture are her pleasure, as well as a few of the finer things in life like the breass mesh roses and daisy trim fiber that adorns the canvas.  She would be a good choice to keep the Traveling Man's home as he likes it, and keep him grounded.

"City Girl"

Wants nothing but the best in life, and promises a life of glamour for the man that chooses her.  She loves the finer things in life, like the best lace, pearls, and a little glitz for jewelry.  She's also well read, and has that colorful side to her, that may make it a challenge for anyone to keep her happy.

So who does the Traveling Man choose?  I can't decide, and decided he really needs a woman that holds the attributes of both of these women.  What do you think?
