Sue is a mixed media artist working out of her home studio in Dyckesville, WI.  Continuing to learn new techniques, working in different mediums, and then finding new ways to combine it all in her work, makes her art an adventure-for both you and Sue!  Her inspiration comes from all things old, especially photographs, and from nature.  She loves creating texture in her collages by adding numerous layers, until a history of sorts is developed to suit the subject matter.  Besides doing collage, painting and bookbinding, Sue also makes & designs jewelry, so you'll find a varied selection to choose from in her shop.

"Did They Dance?"

Mixed Media Collage

This professionally framed mixed media collage, will be sure to give you many opportunities to stop, look, and wonder what this couples life was like.  Their real names are Jimmy & Jane, I've seen a few photos of them, and on each of them, Jane has that same look on her face.  About the only other thing I know about them is that Jimmy was well over 6' tall and Jane was barely 5' tall, and that they had many children.  There's just something about this picture that always makes me wish I had met them and to find out if Jane ever smiled!

This piece measures 13"x16" with the frame and the artwork itself is 11"x14", done on cold pressed, 140# watercolor paper.  All of my collage works are one of kind pieces, so you'll never find this again.  There are at least a dozen or more layers that make up this particular piece of art, including numerous layers of paint, vintage papers including sheet music, transfers, vintage lace, bits & pieces of more papers, and some layers that you may never see which are underneath it all, but are what makes it all come together to give it such depth & a history of sorts.

"Mysterious"

A fun necklace to wear with a 34" "chain" ending with a piece of vintage jewelry that's almost 2 and 1/2" long in itself.  The stones used are African turguoise in an elongated flat oval shape, natural colored coin pearls with a beautiful luster, little faceted pineapple quartz in a very pale yellow color that really catch the light, and brass bicones which are great little African trade beads.  The combination may sound strange , but when it's all tied together with sterling silver, it works well!  After careful construction of stones & sterling, this necklace was artificially aged, hand cleaned, tumbled and then polished by hand to give it a beautiful glow.

"Touch of Bling"

This is the necklace that will look just as good with your casual clothes as it will with that perfect little black dress. It measures approx. 27" long with a 1" vintage button as the focal point, that gives it that little touch of "bling".  The stones are a wonderful smoky/gray faceted quartz rondelle which fits perfectly with the faceted opal that has earthy dark inclusions in it-a perfect mix of sparkle from the light bouncing off the faceting, but not overdone.  It's made with sterling silver, including the hand forged clasp that I added to it.  After careful construction, the necklace was artificially aged, hand cleaned, tumbled and then polished by hand to give it a beautiful glow.  I think you'll be surprised at how often you'll reach for this one to wear, it'll match everything!

"Serenity"

This 25" long necklace is the supporting cast for the beautiful, one of a kind handmade glass vessel used as the focal point, made by an extremely talented glass artisan.  This necklace needed to be constructed so that it complemented the lovely vessel, rather than compete with it, which ended having a very serene look and feel to it, something that I know you'll be most pleased wiith when you see it in person.  The sterling silver wire and hand forged clasp are wrapped around & through a combination of charoite in both square and disc shapes, a natural colored coin pearl with a perfectly soft luster, and finally some translucent vaseline beads which are African trade beads.  It's claimed that Charoite has a healing power to it & that by putting it under your pillow, it will release the fears that surface in your dreams. So not only can you fill the little vessel with a soothing scent (or anything else you want to put in there!) the stones themselves are good for you, you're going to love this one!  After careful construction, the necklace was artificially aged, hand cleaned, tumbled and then polished by hand to give it a beautiful glow.

"African Sunset"

I've never been to Africa, but these are the colors of the sunset I would expect to see over there!  As suspected, this entire necklace is made of African trade beads, including vaseline beads, batik bone, brass bicone, along with some smaller ones in yellows & reds.  This long 37" necklace ends with a brass African fetish pendant, which when combined with the hand forged sterling connectors, makes it about 2" long.  This is such a fun necklace to wear & was just as much to make, that'll get you a lot of compliments and comments-enjoy it!  After careful construction of beads & wire, this necklace was artificially aged, hand cleaned, tumbled and then polished by hand to give it a beautiful glow.

"Mossy Stone"

This approx. 27" long necklace is made up of oval shaped charoite with swirling subtle colors, prehinite squares in the most pale color of green, and rough looking white African trade beads make up a play of colors to complement the one of a kind, hand made glass vessel aptly named, mossy stone.  The vessel comes with a little cork, so feel free to put a little something special inside of it, a scrap of paper with a word written on it would work well, or a little of your favorite perfume, the possbilities are endless!  Charoite is said to have healing powers & it's believed that prehnite's color and unusual touch generate serenity and tranquility, and offers healing powers, sounds perfect to me!  After careful construction of stones & sterling silver, this necklace was artificially aged, hand cleaned, tumbled and then polished by hand to give it a beautiful glow.

"Heartfelt"

This 30" long necklace has a nice earthy feel to it, with all the black lava stone, green prehinite nuggets, and dragons blood jasper, ending with a vintage heart shaped pendant on which I added just a touch of sterling chain.  To dress it up a little more, I added another whole layer of sterling chain to the entire necklace, playing off the stones beautifully.  It reminds me of spring, the lovely green color we wait for all winter, combined with good black soil to provide strong growth, a time of year that I truly love.  After careful construction of stones & sterling silver, this necklace was artificially aged, hand cleaned, tumbled and then polished by hand to give it a beautiful glow.

Coral Necklace

Being a huge fan of the color red, and finding it difficult to find red gemstones, this is a favorite of mine.  It's constructed of bamboo coral, lava stone, translucent African vaseline trade beads, and a couple of stones that came right off a beach of Lake Michigan, that I drilled out myself to be able to use them.  It measures almost 34" with a drop of about 3".  I used a nice weight textured sterling silver chain, which is attached such as to give it an asymetrical look, whcih I seem to do all the time anyway!  All the wire wrapping and the handforged links & components are sterling silver that I've manipulated into these different shapes.  This necklace pairs up nicely with another necklace here (the one with citrine, stick pearls, and charoite) if you like wearing more than one necklace for that layered look.  As with all of my necklaces, the wire wrapping is interconnected, so there's no need for jump rings that may catch on something and break.  After it's constructed, it's artificially aged, then cleaned with steel wool, put into a tumbler for a while, and finally polished by hand to give it a beautiful luster.

Stick pearls, citrine

Measuring approximately 26" long, plus a 2.5" drop, this necklace is a nice warm earthy combination of Charoite, Citrine discs, rusty colored stick pearls with an irridescent gold glow, small white coin pearls, yellow freshwater pearls, and an unusual translucent African vaseline trade bead.  I did add in a handforged clasp on the front, but it's still easily slipped over your head with it closed.  All the wire wrapping and the handforged links & components are sterling silver that I've manipulated into these different shapes.  I made this one specifically to be able to wear with the coral necklace, either looks great by themselves, but these 2 nest together nicely if you like that layered look.  As with all of my necklaces, the wire wrapping is interconnected, so there's no need for jump rings that may catch on something and break.  After it's constructed, it's artificially aged, then cleaned with steel wool, put into a tumbler for a while, and finally polished by hand to give it a beautiful luster.

Trade beads & vintage optomestrist lens

Purples & greens combined has always been a favorite combination to work with, and this has been no exception.  This approximately 32" necklace has a beautiful drop of almost 7", ending with an optometrist lens from the late 1800's.  This lens magnifies, so you can easily use it to read small print, making it beautiful as well as functional.  The larger brighter green beads are African trade beads, called vaseline beads that are translucent.  There's also some good sized stick pearls that are a lovely irridescent purple that almost glows with a touch of green that glints if the light is right, finished off with some smaller purple jasper rondelles and some square freshwater pearls that are an extremely pale, almost seafoam green color.  This will quickly become one of your favorite necklaces to wear!  As with all of my necklaces, the wire wrapping is interconnected, so there's no need for jump rings that may catch on something and break.  After it's constructed, it's artificially aged, then cleaned with steel wool, put into a tumbler for a while, and finally polished by hand to give it a beautiful luster.

Peterstite & Pearls

If you like a more organic look, then this is the necklace for you!  It measures approximately 25" long, plus an additional 3" drop of Peterstite and a fresh water pearl hanging from a handforged component.  The stone, Peterstite, is fast becoming one of my favorites with it's very organic look of earth, water & sky combined, at least that's how I see it.  The freshwater pearls used are a combination of a very soft gold color, along with almost an off white with just the faintest touch of color to them. Even though it's long eough to easily slip over your head, I did add a hand forged clasp to it, just in case you have your hair up for a special occasion, to avoid possibly messing it up.  Have to plan ahead for these things:)  All of the wire wrapping is interconnected, so there's no need for jump rings that may catch on something and break.  This should last a lifetime!  As with all of my jewelry, after it's made it's artificially aged, then cleaned with steel wool, put into a tumbler for a while, and finally polished by hand to give it a beautiful luster.

Necklace/bracelet combination

This piece gives you the option of either wearing the whole piece as an approximately 31" necklace, or unhook the 8.5" section from the hand forged links and wear that piece as a bracelet, which changes the necklace length to approximately 21", plus the 3" drop that hangs from a hand forged component which has delicate white stick peals attached to it, ending with an off white vintage mother of pearl button.  Both pieces are made of mother of pearl nuggets, vintage mother of pearl buttons, and freshwater pearls in a very soft taupe, almost a soft peach like color.  All of the wire and components are made of sterling silver with no jump rings to catch on something and break.  This should last a lifetime!  As with all of my jewelry, after it's made it's artificially aged, then cleaned with steel wool, put into a tumbler for a while, and finally polished by hand to give it a beautiful luster.  This is one of my favorite pieces, as it will match just about anything that you wear.

Peacock pearls & vintage optomestrist lens

For those of us who can't read the fine print, this will solve the problem.  The optometrist lens from the late 1800's that's attached to the end of this necklace magnifies!  I've tried it out myself, and made it long enough so that it's easy to use and hold out far enough to read any small print-comes in very handy:)  This hangs off an approximate 7.5" drop, which is connected to a 31" necklace made out of the ever popular freshwater pearl in a peacock color, and carefully wapped with sterling silver wire.  All of the wire wrapping is interconnected, so there's no need for jump rings that may catch on something and break.  This should last a lifetime!  As with all of my jewelry, after it's made it's artificially aged, then cleaned with steel wool, put into a tumbler for a while, and finally polished by hand to give it a beautiful luster.

A very earthy looking necklace with it's many shades of purple. The chalcedony is a smoky purple color, the charoite has purples, whites, and a little yellow running through each stone, the amethyst is a dark purple, while the freshwater pearls are a little lighter in color-and they all blend beautifully together in this 30" long necklace plus a 4" focal featuring a handmade lampwork bead in the shape of a bird, sitting on top of a bone bead, shaped like a nest.  Each stone in this necklace is carefully wrapped in sterling silver wire, artificially aged, cleaned, tumbled, and hand polished to give it a beautiful glow, and something that will give you enjoyment for life!

A colorful, earthy necklace measuring 28" long plus a 4" focal, is a fun one!  Made out of tourmilated cherry quartz, citrine in both a rectangle and coin shape, sponge coral in both a round bead and smaller discs, is completed with yellow freshwater pearls.  It has a handmade side closure, making it easy to take on & off, although it's actually long enough that you may choose to not use that feature.  The focal features a beautiful handmade lampwork bead in red, oranges, yellows, and a touch of silver, all hanging from a sterling plated circle and dressed up with more yellow pearls.  Each bead is carefully hand wrapped with sterling silver wire, then the necklace is aged, cleaned, tumbled, and finally hand polished, giving you a beautiful finished product that you'll enjoy wearing.
